Alex Roth(PTCL) June 2002:
Has studying the intercalation of polymers into vermiculite. The polymers can bind to the silicate layers of the vermiculite and this has the potential to push them apart and hence change the spacings. Investigations of this sort, using PEO, have been used to estimate forces concerned with polymer bridging flocculation. The project was concerned with finding exactly which polymers can intercalate.
